A Rock In The Stream

I rebel against time
against necessity
fear
faceless people gone now
having finished
their repressions.

I rebel against the hills
I must climb
to breathe
against the needles
I will have
thrust into me.

Time and time
again
who are these
but kaleidoscopic bits of self?

My rebellion smashes
each of them
into a thousand smaller

atoms
that fall away
to mingle,
dustily,

in the earth
from which they sprang
once

a person.
